A delightful and very popular selection from the Gilbert and Sullivan operas, including The Mikado, HMS Pinafore, Iolanthe, The Yeomen of the Guard, The Sorcerer, and The Pirates of Penzance, to name but a few - presented by Ad Hoc with an entertaining, witty, and informative script, written and performed by Walter Paul, an acknowledged expert in the performance, stage-direction, and history of the Savoy Operas.

SONGS FROM THE SHOWS

As the title suggests, words and music from London and Broadway shows written during the 20th and 21st centuries, presented with the style, confidence, and expertise which is the hallmark of an Ad Hoc performance; this programme can be adapted to include special requests, which audiences would like to hear.

THE MAGIC OF THE MUSICALS

A follow up programme from the original Songs From the Showsconcentrating on the more recent stage musicals of the latter part of the 20th century and early years of the present century, and including numbers written by Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice, Boublil and Schonberg, Jerry Herman, Ebb and Kander, and Maury Yeston. This programme is constantly updated and revised.

COLE PORTER – THE MAN AND HIS MUSIC

The life and times of that unique genius Cole Porter, including his unforgettable melodies and songs such as What Is This Thing Called Love?, Begin the Beguine, Night and Day, I’ve Got You Under My Skin, Just One of Those Things, Love for Sale, Miss Otis Regrets, Every Time We Say Goodbye, and selections from his wonderful shows Anything Goes and Kiss Me Kate ; a not-to-be-missed evening presented by Ad Hoc in its own inimitable style.

A MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO IRVING BERLIN

The story of Israel Baline who, as Irving Berlin, became perhaps the most famous American musical genius of the 20th century;  with a witty and informative script interspersed with musical gems such as There’s No Business Like Showbusiness, Play a Simple Melody, Easter Parade, I Hear Singing, Sisters, Couple of Swells, White Christmas  - the list and selection appear endless! Originally prepared and presented in 1990 to celebrate the one hundredth birthday of Irving Berlin, this evening has proved to be one of Ad Hoc’s most popular and enduring entertainments.

A MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO GEORGE GERSHWIN

The story of George Gershwin’s very short life is related in a programme which includes a wide range of his music, from I Got Rhythm and Fascinating Rhythm  to the haunting melodies of Porgy and Bess and the unrivalled genius of An American in Paris.

A MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO RODGERS AND HAMMERSTEIN

A tribute programme devoted to the words and music of those two giants of the American Musical Theatre, Rodgers and Hammerstein, with excerpts from their greatest works including Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, Flower Drum Song, Cinderella and The Sound of Music.

A NIGHT AT THE MOVIES

One of Ad Hoc’s most popular evenings when the audiences can test their memories and try to discover exactly which song appeared in which movie; the excerpts conjure up  diverse names such as Bob Hope, Jane Russell, Ewan McGreogor, Walt Disney, Judy Garland, and Barbara Streisand, and this is an evening when the audiences, too, can let themselves go and sing-a-long with Ad Hoc!
